WHY TENNIS?
I have been teaching tennis for more than 25 years, and I love sharing the sport with new people. Our tennis program is fast-paced, fun and engaging, and tennis is a great activity for kids…

Tennis is new to many kids.
Historically, tennis has not been inaccessible to lower income communities.
Tennis is easy to play with your parents and friends.
Tennis is a lifelong sport.
Tennis is a good alternative if you haven’t enjoyed other sports.
Tennis makes anything possible.
WHY WRITING?

This program offers 45 minutes each day for kids to write. They also read, listen to stories, play games, and act out plays. It’s a creative time. And so far, kids have enjoyed it, and they have written a lot of great things.
Our writing program no only stems summer learning loss, but it also creates a love and appreciation of writing. This positive experience encourages kids to write more, and the more they write the better they get at it.

Writing is a crucially important professional and personal skill, but many students are not proficient writers. Our program seeks to improve kids’ writing, and also help them enjoy it!
WHAT DOES A WRITING SESSION LOOK LIKE?
When students arrive at the writing station, their journals are laid out for them and a prompt is ready. They begin the session with 5-10 minutes of free writing or responding to the prompt.
The teacher then leads an activity. It could be a read-aloud, a brainstorm, a observational challenge, a trivia question or something else.
Each student then responds to this activity in their journal. The teacher leads students through these responses by asking guiding questions.
Students often share their responses to the group.
